Francophilia
넬리슨
For over a century Korea has gained a mastery of European pastries and cafe culture imported from all over Europe, far surpassing Japan.
The Japanese import Francophilia, too, but the taste and texture are not as authentic as it is in Korea. For the first time in Asia, I have eaten an authentic homemade hot waffle with a lightly crispy outer crust, and soft middle slathered in warm maple syrup with heaps of rich creamy vanilla ice cream draped in chocolate. Japan does this, too, but something is missing from their waffle. Most Belgian waffles in Japan is prepacked and served at room temperature and taste generic.
Japanese patisseries are very good at garnishing and adorning their pastries and focus solely on presentation whereas in Korea the focus is on authenticity.
On your next visit to Korea, I highly recommend stopping by to cool off from the eat with a delicious waffle and ice cream if they have it available.
