Nukumori - The Warmth
Autumn - The tree doesn't die, it just changes for a short-time and then comes back fresh and more beautiful than before.
Japan, is one of those countries known for its rich cultural heritage, great destinations, wonderful onsen (hot spring spas), their one of a kind sake (rice brew). One of the finest they say, not only for the traditional and cultural heritage that they have preserved, but undoubtedly, they are also one of the best countries and the most advanced when it comes to new cars, gadgets and technology all at the same time. The country is known for its rich and appealing gadgets and robots – that are already famous all around the globe. But aside from these things, there is more to Japan that every tourist and native would surely love. But I still wonder what that is for them though….
I'm sure we all have our reasons, or excuses for coming to Japan. The events that have transpired over the last year, though, resulting from the fallout from Fukushima Daichi Nuclear Power Plant, and the subsequent mishap after mishap, and with government failures to properly monitor and protect the people of Japan, the reputation of this country has been tarnished. The governments attempt to correct its missteps and bunglings have still left many exasperated, angry, and confused about the role of government in Japan. The whole world knows and has made a mockery of this country's misfortune. The whole world also knows about the subculture, and the footprint it has left in the minds of foreign visitors, and Japan enthusiasts. The world admires Japanese sub-culture, that they, the foreign tourist, may at times infuse the real cultural underpinnings of this country with it, from time to time. People are still goofy about geishas, samurai, and ninjas. They still love the sushi, and the sake. The temples and shrines still hold their charms. Classical theater is partially only admired by the elderly, and the educated. Sumo has been polluted by foreign wrestlers, and has lessened the cultural quality of this ancient sport. True, even when Riki Dozan, and a whole host of other foreign wrestlers were embraced by the sumo association they gave the sport excitement, made it internationally appealing. But, the undoing of the sport has ultimately been at the hands of the foreign wrestler and corrupt officiating. Can the soul of Japan still be extracted from what's left of this country? Can the young embrace such old national pastimes, and customs? How can the image of Japan be restored?
How it's being restored now is through the spreading of Japanese "sake" and food culture. A small revival is slowly taking form in the form of Japan's culinary heritage. So if we are to deduce down the current image of Japan, it would be its dying culture, its failed government, its culinary revival, its sub-cultural domination. That's it. The Japanese forefathers are probably turning over in their graves ten times over at how rampant the cultural landscape is changing. In 20 years, Japanese sake will totally be reinvented as a white drink, that's associated with a million different fruit concoctions. Sake, as it is, is already perfect. How I have been trying to reinvent the country, as so many are attempting to do now, is through the spreading of Sake knowledge, the Jukujo, and the natural hot spa.
Sake used to be a spiritual drink coveted by the most righteous and noble men of the time. Not even JAPanese women were allowed into the sake brewing houses centuries ago! Times have changed. Now you see white faces brewing sake in sake breweries in Japan. If sake is to survive it has to change, and in order for it to change it has to find a way to appeal to a much broader audience, which is not really here anymore in Japan, unless you are over 40. There was a time when sake was a privileged drink reserved for holy men and dignitaries; not even farmers and lay people drank sake. Now, sake is being mass exported to foreigners all over the world in an attempt to hook them with its sweet essence. Centuries ago, this idea would've been unthinkable. Only the JAPanese can appreciate such a refined beverage was how most Japanese thought back then. No more.

Japanese women love foreign men, even more than their own counterparts it seems. And there are perhaps a dozen reasons for this, but one things for certain, whatever it is Japanese women are looking for in a man, is not in the Japanese man. Maybe these guys need to do some soul searching and find out what Japanese women want and stop being so out of touch. For centuries the Japanese man has compartmentalized his associations, from professional to personal, and so forth and so on. This has always been the norm. Japanese women have always had their place in society, and were not allowed into men only circles typically reserved for holy men and men of high social stature. This separation had once served its purpose, not anymore. It's time to search from within.
When Makiko Tanaka was active in politics she imbued it with passion. She spoke her mind and her heart. She was eccentric and beautiful, and extremely intelligent. I loved her and her ways. She imbued the very essence of Japan: strong, beautiful, decisive, and possessed within her everything Japan needed in a leader - the better half of the ignorant Japanese man in other words who'd rather be playing baseball with his American friends, or eating chocolate from the hands of his American bosses.
I believe Mishima Yukio found his expression through himself, and through the unifying ideal of Tenno, the martial spirit, and self devotion, and ultimately through his homosexuality and unfailing patriotism. He was one with himself. The modern Japanese man has been struggling to find the "oneness." The very essence of the nature of each and every persons self, through the realization of self. And what that means for the future of Japan and the race.
In order to take the steps necessary to save Japan, the country has to be united as one, in its ideology, the needs of its women, its sake, its living god, its culinary heritage, its temples, its shrines, its gods, its military arm, minus the sub-culture. The sub-culture is an escape modality, which only serves to further weaken the soul.
The concept of Nukumori is that warmth you get from intimate contact. Japan has grown too distant from it's natural and cultural coil. Its cultural underpinnings are no longer what bind the people together. In most cultures, the people draw strength from the continuity of their culture, and the heritage created by their ancestors. The youth no longer seek counsel from their ancestors, they seek escape through the utilization of technology, hyper-fantasy, and shopping expeditions. This is because the nation has weak and ineffective men who promote weak and ineffective policies at home and in politics, most times nothing at all. The same men who laughed at Mishima Yukio, the same men who scoff at the old ways, and who worship white people as their leaders and gods - role models. Money seems to be the only driving force nowadays, and job security. No one sets the example nor the stage.
The first time I felt the power of Japan was through the legs of a Jukujo 15 years ago. She wasn't my first woman, but the best women. Nukumori between us; our communication; the power of the whole entire nation of Japan infused my whole awareness. All of every aspect of Japan is in its women. Everything. If Japanese women are infused within the dynamic of how the country is to succeed and work, it has to come through the Japanese woman, one who is aware of the cultural and spiritual dynamics of her own country. Not an overly Westernized and spiritually tarnished Japanese woman, but a proud and powerful Japanese woman.
So the ignorant Japanese man, as irresponsible and stupid as he is, is selling his own country out when he fails to acquire "nukumori" with his own women, cultural foundations, the martial spirit, and the ancestors. And now, he is selling sake to the highest bidder overseas in order to save sake!!!??? Only Japanese people can save Japanese sake! If Japanese people do not drink sake at home, then it is not going to matter if geeky foreigners drink it in any other country, once the soul has gone. So rather then sell the country out to everybody and everything, like you are with TPP, try coming back to your fucking senses and realize that Japan can only be saved from within itself. Every culture finds its inner strength from within itself, not outside of itself. Sake has to be acquired at home by its own people before it can be with others. I say this because I'm driving home a point. If you create the atmosphere, the people will come and they will learn and probably acquire the taste for their own national drink. If you drink it, and love it, chances are they will too. They need examples.
JAPANESE women should be the ones marketing sake, selling it, and perhaps even brewing it. Sake is sexy, sake is beautiful, sake is refined. Not some old stinky mans drink, or some appallingly gay looking geeky Westerners drink. The whole marketing strategy has got to change to appeal to beautiful Japanese women who are career women and housewives.
